An inclusive & barrier-free playground & recreation area.
As a child, you surely recall countless fun-filled hours spent at your local playground. For children with special needs, the opportunity to enjoy that excitement is limited or even non-existent due to equipment & playgrounds that are simply inaccessible to them because of their disabilities. With that in mind, we are pleased and proud to introduce Claire’s CareLand, a playground & recreation area for the special needs and able bodied children of our community. While named in memory of Claire Noel Valente, a fiercely spirited senior at Grosse Pointe North High School who lost her life-long battle with numerous health and developmental challenges in September 2016, this project is for all families & children who would enjoy the fun & benefits of an inclusive barrier-free recreation and play area.
We have worked closely with the Grosse Pointe Public School System to find just the right place for such an important project. After much consideration it has been determined the Parcells Middle School at the corner of Vernier Road and Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe Woods is the best, most centrally located spot to build Claire’s CareLand for the benefit of all who live and play in the area. Of course, as much as we want and need such a dedicated area – there is a financial cost to preparing the grounds then purchasing & installing the right equipment and infrastructure to maximize the safety and enjoyment for all children. Fortunately, we’ve already received pledges but we still need your help & support to raise a substantial amount of money in order to make this project a reality.
